Coaching Code of Conduct

Within my role as a coach, I will:

 

  • Work within the standards set out in the ICF Code of Ethics, which can be found at:

  • Conduct myself to the highest level of ethics, integrity, accountability and responsibility.

  • Recognise and respect the unique characteristics of any person I meet through my coaching work, treating everyone with dignity and ensuring confidentiality is maintained.

  • Ensure that the work I do positively contributes to promoting the reputation of the coaching profession.

  • Fully comply with any commercial agreements made between myself and clients, potential clients or any other person or organisation I encounter through my work.

  • Make commercial agreements with clients or potential clients that are fair and respect all parties involved.

  • Represent my true level and status within the profession, as well as my competence and experience, so as not to mislead, misrepresent or defraud.

  • Ensure that clients and potential clients receive clarity on the terms of any agreements they enter into with me, including the expectations of all parties.

  • Not make claims or imply outcomes that cannot be demonstrated or guaranteed.

  • Obtain written permission (email accepted) from any client before releasing their names as referees or on testimonials.

  • Respect the absolute rights of clients confidentiality, unless expess permission to disclose has been received from the client or potential client in writing or if disclosure is required by law.

  • Refer to or recommend different clients or other sources of help when these will be more suited to the client or potential clients needs.

  • Avoid conflicts of interest within a coaching relationship and if a risk of conflict is identified, ensure the client is informed immediately.

  • Not offer professional information or advice that I know to be confidential, misleading or where the accuracy is unknown to me.

  • Always work to enhance public understanding and acceptance of professional coaching.

  • Actively engage with other life coaches and coaching organisations, including the ICF and the Life Coaching Academy to share skills, experience and knowledge to maintain my professional development and support others to do the same.

  • Respect all copyrights, agreements, work, intellectual property and trademarks and comply with laws covering these areas.

  • Avoid coaching minors (people under 18 years of age) without the express written permission of a parent, guardian or other authoratitive figure.

  • Comply with all the laws and by laws of the United Kingdom and when coaching clients based abroad, of the laws governing their country.

  • Ensure that my business advertisements and marketing materials, whether verbal or written, are legal, decent, honest and in compliance with the laws of the United Kingdom.

  • Make a copy of this code freely available to all clients or potential clients if they request it.
